Thank you so much for this article. As a recent Brahmsian - I find his music to be at times unfathomably deep and beautiful. I occasionally listen to his D minor piano concerto during my morning prayers (I have my own liturgy lol). Did know all this history about Adler, and the very familiar "Motzi" song - which I first learned, and now my kids have at camp Nah-Jee-Wah. Both Brahms and Adler were bridge builders - and you can hear it in their music.
